How To Make Pop Tarts
Better than any shop-bought toaster pastry you lot've always tasted! From Sommer Collier of A Spicy Perspective.
We don't buy a whole lot of pre-packaged snacks and breakfast items at home. I endeavour to keep healthy options on hand at all times.
However, when we take the kids to the lake, nosotros e'er end up buying Popular Tarts and mini boxes of cereal. I'one thousand non exactly sure why. Information technology happened once or twice and now the kids act as if Popular Tart consumption is the standard protocol at the lake.
It'southward not just the kids either. Dan at present expects Pop Tarts at the lake and is just every bit forlorn if we testify upward without them, every bit the kids.
All the same every time I bite into a Pop Tart, I recall, "Meh. Not worth the calories." They're just not my thing!
Then I discovered homemade (or at least semi-homemade) Pop Tarts!
What is a Pop Tart exactly? A little pastry crust, a lilliputian fruit filling, a picayune icing. That's simple enough.
If Pop Tarts were fabricated with pie chaff, chunky jam, and fresh icing, would they gustation better than the store-bought variety?
The answer is a resounding Yep.
And so only exactly how much better do Homemade Pop Tarts taste, 1 might ask? Enough to make you spend the actress time and money, I promise you that!
Plus, kids love this sort of quick-bake projection. They were so impressed with the Homemade Pop Tarts, I recall they are going to take this on equally our new lake tradition!
Kickoff past rolling out two refrigerated pie crusts. Cutting off the edges to form 2 squares. So cutting each square into 3 equal strips.
Mix fruit jam, whatsoever kind you lot like, with a little cornstarch to assist thicken the jam. Spoon it on one cease of each strip.
Castor egg around the jam to serve every bit glue. And so fold the strip over the jam and crimp the edges.
Bake until golden.
Then whisk together a quick frosting if desired, and drizzle over the top.
These footling beauties are and so like shooting fish in a barrel to make. Maybe not as easy every bit pulling them out of a box, but definitely worth the little bit of try. The crust is richer and more flaky. The fruity middle is more vibrant. And the icing is fresh.
Now Pop Tarts are worth the calories!
Make them with your kids for a weekend breakfast, or around the holidays equally a special treat. Your family will never wait at boxed toaster pastries the aforementioned way again.
